Here you will take the role of a trainee Site Officer. Your job is to do an official survey of all the sites on this program. Some of the Site Surveys are fully interactive with drawings and questions; and some are in print-out form. You can work alone or work within a group. Click on a site below to get started.   1. Now we get down to some real work. You'll be doing some serious thinking about 4 of the Sites - the Knapping site, the Bipolar site, the Scarred Trees site and the Inland site.
  2. This is where you take control. This is how you really protect the past.
  3. You'll have to map out the sites, answer questions, fill in site cards - the full deal
  4. But you'll really start to understand what's what in analysing and documenting sites. And you'll start to learn how to communicate it.
  5. The real problem is not finding stuff from the past, it's getting people to understand what that past means, the importance of sites
  6. It's no good you knowing what's goin on, you gotta get other people to help you
  7. Remember the first rule is - don't lose the site.
  8. You gotta map where things are and what they look like. You can't protect stuff you can't find again
  9. The trick is to start big and get smaller and smaller. First you gotta record where a site is in country, then you start looking at the site itself, and finally all the different individual parts of the site
  10. You do this for two reasons - firstly you record sites in the landscape so people can check on a register before they start building roads and stuff
  11. Secondly so we can try and understand what was going on when these sites were made
  12. I don't know about you but knowing where a site is, is not enough for me, I want to understand what it means
  13. Those old people they had reasons for doing things in certain place
  14. This sort of tracking though time is even more complicated because of the number of things that could be going on in any one site; and the number of reasons there could be for doing them at any one time
